I am a postdoctoral scholar at the Bren School of Env. Sci. & Mgmt., UC Santa Barbara. Current projects focus in the areas of water, climate, fire, and science broadly. I'm most interested in how members of the public influence environmental policy and management. Using theories from communication and social psychology I analyze the public's relationship to policy via information streams. I then use these findings to explain their relationship with policy outcomes via their interactions with agencies and managers. In 2015/2016 I was fortunate to advance my teaching and research as a visiting assistant professor at Reed College. I am extending these lessons to current research mentorships with graduate and undergraduate students and will be teaching Politics of the Environment this Winter. Additional life goals include developing a platform for scientists interested in engaging with managers and policymakers, media production around important environmental issues, and surfing and biking more regularly.
